The Hunters of Maryland, LLC stand with our conservation partners in opposing any foreseeable funding cuts to Maryland’s land conservation programs. While we recognize that State lawmakers are confronting a projected $1.3 billion structural deficit in fiscal year 2027 and are searching for budgetary savings, land conservation is not expendable spending—it is a long-term investment in Maryland’s future. Open space protected through Maryland’s land conservation programs is preserved in perpetuity.
Maryland has established clear statutory conservation goals known as the 30/30 and 40/40 initiatives. These goals commit the State to permanently protecting 30% of Maryland’s 6.1 million acres from development by 2030, and 40% by 2040. Achieving these targets is essential to maintaining Maryland’s natural heritage.
At its core, land conservation is wildlife habitat protection. The Hunters of Maryland, LLC are committed to protecting and enhancing wildlife habitat across the State so that Maryland’s outdoor traditions and natural resources endure for future generations.
